Surging Veteran Wins as Rookie Bombs The #3 Los Angeles Bombers finally made the Fantasy Bowl in their 11th season. The #1 San Diego Surge were in their 3rd Fantasy Bowl and were undefeated in the championship game. Experience trumped beginner's luck as the Surge won 93 to 69. It gives San Diego their third championship overall and second since 2014. They join Atlanta and Anchorage as the only 3-time league champions. San Diego rode Todd Gurley to get the championship game as he scored 51 and 63 points respectively. He did not factor into the game as the Rams decided to rest him. No problem for the Surge as they looked to Dion Lewis to fill the void. The New England RB contributed 35 points to win Fantasy Bowl MVP and lead all running backs in scoring for the week. His counterpart Devonta Freeman had a decent outing going for 21 points. The Bombers were forced to start someone else as Goff was out for rest as well. They turned to Jimmy Garoppolo who had a decent 22 point day for his first career FFL start. He was not the only Los Angeles player affected by rest. The Bombers took a zero at tight end because Kelce was their only option and never played. Kareem Hunt played sparingly and was benched in favor of C.J. Anderson, which was the right decision. However, none of LA's players earned a performance bonus for yardage which crushed their chances of winning. No one for the Bombers scored more than 13 points except for Garappolo. It was the lowest scoring Fantasy Bowl ever with 162 points. This contest didn't see a field goal made between the kickers as Elliott was shut out and Forbath missed his only attempt but did make 3 extra points. It marks only the fourth time where the winner didn't even break 100 points. The Bombers were the second lowest scoring loser in the Fantasy Bowl. Denver owns the record for futility with a 42 point day in 2005. The Bronze Bowl always suggest what if. Like, what if San Francisco or Anchorage won in week 16 to make the finals. Well, then San Francisco would have beaten Los Angeles to become champion and Anchorage would have beaten San Diego to become champion. The reality is that the Ice Knights defeated the Rattlesnakes in the Bronze Bowl. San Francisco took 2 zeros from arguably their best positional players, Bell and Gronk. Anchorage needed only Wilson, Collins, and Murray who combined for 81 points. The new IBC Root Beer Bowl replaced the Foster's Aussie Bowl after 19 years. The inagural game was a beatdown putting it nicely. North Dakota destroyed Tampa Bay 112-43. The 69-point drubbing goes down as the largest post season victory and 5th largest victory for 2017. The sad thing is that the Blizzard didn't post any goose eggs and all their players had significant playing time. Their 43 point day was the lowest score since 2010 when the Montana Grizzly Bears posted 39 points. Jameis Winston alone nearly beat the entire Blizzard team with his 39 point day. The Overrated showcased a brotherly matchup that saw the Hooligans triumphant over the Diamonds by 23 points. Sterling Heights finished the day with 100 points for the second consecutive week. They also doubled up on the Diamonds winning both games against them this year. Denver finished the season on a 4 game losing streak, going winless in the post season for the third time ever. Two of their guys finished with zeros which included 10 touches from Howard, DeDe Westbrook was the other guy. Fort Wayne and Detroit faced in the new Hefty Garbage Bowl which replaced the Chef Boyardee Jabroni Bowl after 18 years. The Pistons avenged their week 15 loss to the Devils by winning 113-100. This game showcased some great quarterback play as Stafford and Rivers combined for 88 points, both going over the 40 point mark. Fort Wayne won the contest primarily because of the defensive matchup. Denver D outscored Carolina D 12 to 1. The QB difference was 6, RB differnce was 1, WR difference was 4, TE difference was 2, PK difference was 3. The Toilet Bowl saw two unlikely teams squaring off where Atlanta defeated Chicago. The Jesters overcame a goose egg from Roethlisberger (rest) and a -2 kicking day from Dan Bailey to win by 5. The Triumph needed one more catch from Brown, Lanrdy, or Doyle or even another rush from Brown. The Triumph finished the season with 3 wins, joining 5 other teams. They had one win more than the league record, owned by the 2010 Chippers and 2014 Nimrods. They also failed to get a post season win for the first time ever. The Jesters stopped their 2-game bowl losing streak for their 14th bowl win.
