2023 Power Rankings - Week 17

Rank (LW) Logo Team Record Rating Comment
1 (1) CTR 11-5 101.85 The Triumph are going back to the finals for a record 9th time. They are simply dominant in the seminfinal match with a 9-1 record. Chicago's run of success comes in bunches, making 3 finals in the first 5 years ('97, '99, '01), then 3 in a row ('10-'12) and then 3 more in the last 5 seasons ('19, '21, '23). It's time to add another one to the 2001 and 2010 titles.
2 (2) LAB 11-5 94.79 The Bombers suffered a crushing defeat in their quest to win their first championship losing to San Francisco. They lost to the same team they traded with in Week 13 where they acquired Purdy from. He had his worst game of his career and would have been fantasy bowl bound if Lamar or Baker had started. LA (actually Raleigh) is 0-1 in the Bronze Bowl.
3 (3) SH 10-6 94.37 The Hooligans won their 10th game of the year to have double digit wins in 3 consecutive seasons. However, they have not looked like the same team that won the regular season scoring crown averaging 106 points over the past 3 weeks. The Hooligans enter bowl week riding a career best 3-game bowl winning streak.
4 (4) FW 7-9 83.53 The Pistons have played the top scorer over the past two weeks surrendering 322 points in those games. They fell for the fifth straight time. The loss clinched another losing season for the fifth time in 8 years. Fort Wayne will try to win their 3rd straight bowl game for their third time ever.
5 (8) DEN 8-8 83.35 The Diamonds blew the doors off of the Pistons to be the highest scorer for the week. Had they won their opening round matchup versus the Blizzard, they would have been Fantasy Bowl bound. Moving on, Denver picked up Amari Cooper as a free agent who would go on to have a 61 point day, making the all-time top 10 WR list.
6 (5) SF 9-7 83.28 The Rattlesnakes did something that has never been done before and that is make the final as the #5 seed. The #5 seed had been 0-10 in semifinal games before San Francisco broke through. In the process, San Francisco picked up their 24th playoff victory to make their 8th final. They can add a 3rd championship to go with their 1997 and 2018 campaigns.
7 (6) TB 11-5 82.17 The Blizzard officially added another year to the championship drought after falling short versus Chicago by 26 points. It's been 23 years and next year will make it 24. Tampa Bay will have a consolation bowl game in the Bronze Bowl where they sport a 2-1 record. This will be their 4th time facing Raleigh/LA in a bowl where they are 1-2.
8 (7) SD 7-9 75.10 The Surge lost for the third straight time after failing to break 100 points in those contests. Because of that, San Diego will not have a winning post season for the sixth straight year. They enter bowl week on a 5-game bowl losing streak with their last bowl win (not ending with a championship) coming in the 2012 Toilet Bowl.
9 (9) ND 6-10 71.01 The Nimrods seemed poised to have a shot of going undefeated in the post season until they were upset by the Devils. The loss gave North Dakota their tenth loss of the season, reaching double digit losses for the third time. If the Nimrods win the Garbage Bowl, they will have won every active bowl game to complete the sextet.
10 (10) DET 6-10 66.07 The Devils pulled off an upset over the Nimrods to pick up their first win of the post season. That makes 9 consecutive post seasons where Detroit has won at least won one game. The Devils will enter this Toilet Bowl (0-2) will some momentum, winning 5 straight bowl games and 7 out of their last 8.
11 (12) ATL 5-11 64.42 The Jesters won their first two post season games to avoid a matchup in the Toilet Bowl. They can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that they still have never had a last place finish in the league. The Jesters won the 9/10 matchup when it was the Jabroni Bowl going 2-0 but never as the Garbage Bowl going 0-2.
12 (11) ANA 5-11 62.02 The Commando Cats lost to the Jesters to seal a trip to the Toilet Bowl. The historic post seasons woes continue. This was Anaheim's 13th consecutive post season loss, which is a league worst. Now they will look to do something they have never done before, and that's win a bowl game. They are 0-6 all-time with a 0-2 mark in the Toilet Bowl.
