2023 Power Rankings - Week 16

Rank (LW) Logo Team Record Rating Comment
1 (2) CTR 10-5 101.35 The Triumph were the highest scoring team in the first week of the post season with 159 points bouncing back from their lowest scoring week. Chicago won their 10th game of the season for the sixth straight season to break a tie with San Francisco (2003-2007). The Triumph is one away from making their 9th final.
2 (3) LAB 11-4 96.64 The Bombers are now two wins away from their first championship ever. They had an easy cake walk in the first round winning by 62 points. This is LA's 3rd trip to the semifinals but this will be their first time as the #1 seed. The last 7 seven champions have come from this side of the bracket so history is on their side.
3 (1) SH 9-6 95.92 The champs are out and now will have to wait to see who they are going to give the trophy to. The loss is disappoinmeting but it ends the most remarkable scoring run in the history of the league. Sterling Heights had scored over at least 100 points in 36 straight games, the first time since week 12 of the 2021 season.
4 (4) FW 7-8 85.26 The Pistons had their playoff win streak come to an end too, one year removed from their 2021 championship. The 57 point loss to Chicago stings a little bit more knowing that they lost their annual bet with the Triumph, failing to cover the 38 points they had previously beat them by in Week 6. They are now 9-9 in the playoffs.
5 (5) SF 8-7 84.49 The Rattlesnakes had their hot run continue as they picked up yet another playoff win (#23) to make their 14th semifinal. Somehow San Francisco is 3-0 as the #5 seed in the first round of the playoffs. Now they must take on the next challenge of getting the #5 seed to the final for the first time ever.
6 (6) TB 11-4 82.17 The Blizzard moved on to the semifinals with a tight first round matchup versus Denver. Tampa has now won a playoff game in back-to-back seasons for second time ever. But it is their first time winning a playoff game coming off a trip to the finals in the prior year. In case anyone has forgotten, there is 21 years of dust in their trophy case.
7 (7) SD 7-8 77.65 The Surge could not cobble together a healthy enough team to compete in this year's playoff. Without either their top 2 running backs and a hobbled QB, San Diego could only put 74 points on the board. So for the third consecutive year, the Surge will bow out of the first round of the playoffs.
8 (8) DEN 7-8 77.47 The Diamonds lost in the playoffs to extend their playoff losing streak to 4 games. To make things worse, their championship drought will exceed the 15 year mark now. Denver has to win out to secure their second winning season since 2015. The Diamonds have not put together two straight post seasons wins since 2014.
9 (9) ND 6-9 71.53 The Nimrods have officially clinched a spot in the Garbage Bowl, which means they are not Toilet Bowl bound. North Dakota has put together a 3 game winning streak for their longest win streak of the season. They are trying to avoid losing for the tenth time this season which they have not done since the 2015 season.
10 (10) DET 5-10 64.71 The Devils clinched a berth in the Toilet Bowl for only the third time with their last trip coming in 2014. Detroit has never won a Toilet Bowl. They lost to Atlanta and North Dakota, who coincidentally was their week 15 opponent and now week 16 opponent. The Devils have lost 10 games in back-to-back seasons.
11 (11) ANA 5-10 64.67 The Commando Cats lost in the post season for the 18th time in their existance. It brings their post season win percentage down to 10%. The loss sets up a date with Atlanta who they have beaten twice this season by 30 points or more. They hold a 7-3 advantage over the Jesters, but are 0-3 against them in the post season.
12 (12) ATL 4-11 62.95 The Jesters are playing for pride and survived their first test of the post season. They need to win once more in order to avoid that dreaded trip to the Toilet Bowl. Atlanta has won 2 games in the post season for 3 out of the last 4 years. Week 16 is their toughest week to win with a record of 12-11.
